Maritime Security

In the years since 9-11, both the U.S. Coast and international maritime bodies have mandated numerous enhanced security measures, most notably, The U.S. Maritime Security Act of 2002.  These measure include mandatory security surveys of all waterside ports and related facilities as well as on most seagoing vessels, regardless of flag.  Further tightening of security measures are in the works.

Maritime security services offered by The Flagstaff Group include: security surveys, drafting of security plans, implementation of physical security measures, land based and waterborne patrols, penetration exercises, background checks of employees (TWIC), monitoring of security systems, and liaison with law enforcement and Coast Guard officials.

The Coast Guard requires that vessel and port facility security plans be submitted yearly. We provide assistance in complying with laws and regulations.

An additional consideration regarding security in port areas of the U.S. is the fact that in many U.S. ports, the workforce is unionized.  The instability caused by workplace instability that may arise from poor relations between port management and the unions may very well be the “chink in the armor” that terrorists are looking for.

We are qualified to provide yacht owners with security services which include seasonal and short-term on-board personnel, dockside security, assistance with in-port security and transportation services, and preparation of a vessel security plan.

Our team includes a licensed yacht captain who is available to assist with transits, and short and long term charters.

The Flagstaff Group is uniquely qualified to perform security surveys and vulnerability assessments at any of the numerous types of commercial enterprises that are waterside or in close proximity to the water.

Our teams include former military special operations personnel, former coast guard personnel, former law enforcement professionals, and other competent security specialists.

Our Portland Office is conveniently located on the working waterfront in the Portland Company (Portland Yacht Services) complex.  We are directly adjacent to the Maine State Pier and very close to other wharfs and piers in Portland and South Portland.

We conduct security operations 24/7 from our state-of-the-art Operations Center, supervising and overseeing both on-going operations and short-term security projects.
